The Delta Animal Shelter was formed in August of 2011, when Delta County scheduled the closure of the animal shelter due to budget cuts. The members of the Delta Area Animal
Society took over operations of the animal shelter to prevent the doors from permanently closing. The society is now part of the membership of the Delta Animal Shelter.
The Delta Animal Shelter is a 501c3 non-profit, privately operated, community supported, open admission adoption shelter. Our mission is to promote dog and cat animal controls, promote the prevention of cruelty and neglect of animals, promote and provide humane education, provide shelter for stray and lost animals, locate suitable homes for animals, and rehabilitate ill and injured dogs and cats.
Some of the programs we currently fund include assistance to low income families to spay/neuter their pets through our Cinderella program, the Kinds News educational newsletter for children in grades 2nd-4th, a rebate program for dog obedience classes, and a Bay College Scholarship for an individual going into veterinary medicine.
Membership is open to any individual 18 years or older who would like to make a difference in the future of this shelter. Our membership meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at 6pm in the basement of Ferdinand’s Mexican Restaurant. New members are always welcome!
